Republican candidate for Delaware’s 8th district State Senate seat, Louis Saindon, discusses taxes in Delaware.
Full Text of Louis Saindon’s GOP Weekly Message:
Hi, my name is Louis Saindon, and I’m the Republican candidate in Delaware’s 8th State Senate District.
Thanks for joining me today for the Delaware Republican Party’s weekly address.
As I’ve visited houses in the 8th Senate District, it is clear to me that there is one basic issue facing Delawareans this year. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, really. It’s the economy.
Families and small businesses are struggling right now. I work for a small business here in Newark, and I know that the burden our state puts on our small businesses makes it hard to survive in this economy.
There are some real solutions that Republicans are focusing on to help get our economy back on track.
Priority one is to reverse course on the great tax hike of 2009. In order to cover a budget deficit, the previous General Assembly raised and initiated 14 taxes.
Among those most devastating were an increase in corporate and personal income tax. Anyone making more than $60,000/year saw an effective 17% increase in their income tax. How is taking more money from hardworking Delawareans supposed to improve our economy?
Of course, in order to be able to repeal those job-killing tax hikes, we must do what the Government is currently unwilling to do; that is, cut spending.
Republicans have identified enough areas of waste and surplus in government spending that we can cut 15% of our state budget without laying off one person.
Once the budget is streamlined, and those tax hikes are repealed, the groundwork will be laid for economic recovery. The uncertainty of Delaware’s business climate will fade, business owners will look to expand and jobs will follow. Lots of jobs. And that is the key to Delaware’s future.
