There will be no recount in the Republican primary for Delaware’s lone U.S. House seat. Michele Rollins conceded the race to Glen Urquhart Wednesday afternoon.
After all the votes were counted Tuesday night, Urquhart led by just over 500 votes. Rollins said Tuesday night that it was too close of a margin to concede. Urquhart says shortly before 1PM Wednesday, Rollins called to say she’d changed her mind.
“Michele Rollins called me (earlier today) to congratulate me on the victory, that they confirmed the numbers and we had won,” Urquhart said. ”She was very gracious and I appreciated her call and we agreed we would get together in a couple of days to move forward together.”
Commissioner of Elections Elaine Manlove said that Michele Rollins did not request a recount and the numbers did not fall within the mandated one half of one percent necessary to trigger an automatic recount.
Urquhart suggested Rollins is willing to back his general election campaign against Democrat John Carney, though there is no official endorsement yet. “We want to talk about healing and moving forward as the Republican Party.”
Urquhart also plans to reach out to Rollins supporters.
“We share 95 percent of our principles. Those principles are that big government is the problem,” Urquhart said. ”Big government is not the solution. We’ve had too many years, under two Presidents, of accumulating way too much debt.”
