Teaching educators how to engage parents

The ongoing effort to improve the way Delaware schools engage parents continued this week with a workshop on the topic hosted by Lt. Governor Matt Denn and the Delaware State Education Association (DSEA).  The four hour event at Buena Vista Conference Center  in New Castle brought together 70 people involved in education in the state, including superintendents, Title I administrators and teachers, to discuss the issue.

The workshop was moderated by  Dr. Mavis Sanders, a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Education.  Dr. Sanders has studied parental and community involvement in schools extensively as part of the  Johns Hopkins’ National Network of Partnership Schools.  She is also author or co-author of three books on the topic -School, Family, and Community Partnerships: Your Handbook for Action, Building school-community partnerships: Collaboration for student success and Principals Matter: A guide to programs of school, family, and community partnerships.
